Roman Anphitheatre

Tarragona - Spain.

The Anphitheatre was built at the beginning of the 2nd century. Two types of spectacle were held here: gladiator fights and simulated hunts or fights with wild animals. It was also the place where prisoners condemned to death  were executed. In its arena are the remains of 6th and 12th century Churches built to commemorate the martyrdom of the Christian bishop Fructuosus and two deacons , whom were burnt alive here in AD259.
